Firstly, when they originally released the semi-finalists there were a ton of rule-breaking and discrepancies that made it seem as if the judges did not care. I mean, I know there were many entries, but they had almost 2 months to review so certain things should have stood out for them (for example semi-finalists that were entered MULTIPLE times in the same category.) The rules clearly stated that you could only enter one piece per person. Why is half of the semi-final gallery just one dude? (you can EASILY filter that.) Also there was a huge issue of plagerisim and forgery. One was a "painting" of these trees by a lake. Turns out it was just a photo from shutterstock with a painter filter over it in PS. It took forever but they FINALLY JUST took it down. (At first all the judges did were "hide" the comments.)
There was another image that was also just a photo manip and also one that was a fanart. People had to practically beg to push those entries out. A few are still there. Also, I have an issue with traditional and digital painting to be considered the same category. I know that the computer doesn't instantly make you a pro , BUT when you draw or paint traditionally and then SCAN your work and save as a png, tiff, or jpeg; the quality is NEVER the same. A picture or a hand drawn painting never does it justice. The colors are different the textures... you name it and that is where the digital has a one up, because you are doing it in RGB and saving it FOR the screen you WILL have the accurate colors and textures. You will see that piece the way it was meant to be. Idk, that is my opinion. Also, the deadline for the finalists to chose their classes is TOMORROW, January 15. It's the 14th and they still haven't decided on the winners. So... nobody will win? Or they'll reveal the winners at midnight giving them only a few hours to schedule everything? I mean, wtf? Just some of my issues with this contest.
omg I completely agree with everything you said. I was just nervous to say it IDKY hahaha. Yeah it's a bunch of BS. they were supposed to announce the final winners like a month ago. I gave up on this contest long ago. I don't even care anymore haha
Exactly! Idk what they are thinking. There are deadlines made out for a reason! They really need to get their act together. I know there were many talented artists in this competition but 4 months is a bit ridiculous. I'm positive other competitions will have as many or more entries, I have an inkling that they are probably having some sort of funding issue, some donator probably pulled out ( I mean the money for travel, room and board doesn't come out of nowhere.) I wish they'd just flat out tell everyone instead of hiding it under the rug. Well it's officially the 15th here; I feel sorry for the finalists who followed the rules and have their hopes up so high.
uhhhg God it is the 15th on the east coast huh How sad... it's like, all this was pointless, and for nothing I feel. Why do they do this to us? The longer I have been on dA, the longer I have noticed that the dA staff only cares about how flashy and llama-y the place is. If you have a problem, the best you can do is just suck it up because reporting your issue will get you no where. I once reported theft, and my note went unread for months ( cause the note icon stays yellow if it's unread ) I finally deleted it from my sent folder because it stayed unread for months.. I was like, thanks guys. really means a lot I mean I totally get that their busy and all, but... Don't they have like a massive staff? WTF is happening LOL. I miss the way dA was in 2007
This one neeeeeds to win! Or at least get recognized, your artwork is so amazing, it has life and the mark of a unique artist who lets her heart draw and not her mind. Your drawings march to your own beat and can never be replicated.
