PHEW! After working on this solid for the past 2 or so weeks, I'm finally done!! SOO MANY SCALES!!
This is for the Wacom : Dreams Contest!
This piece means a LOT to me. My heritage ( to those of you that don't watch me/don't know ) goes back to the dragons, the Drakes. The Drake Dragon is my family crest, and obviously, I'm very proud of it! I feel honoured being related to a nobel pirate of whom was knighted by a Queen
I really REALLY wish that dragons existed. And if they did, I would totally want one as a pet/friend. I think besides gryphons or unicorns, dragons are my favourite mythical creature. They can be either good or bad, wise or silly, tiny, or a bit fat lummox. I often daydream about dragons, and how awesome it'd be if they existed, or roamed with the dinosaurs, but still existed. Oh the fun I'd have...
In this picture, I drew a Drake dragon 8D Drakes don't (usually) have wings, and are long and serpent/lizard like. Often compared to the Chinese dragon, but are more commonly related to the Western Dragon. They can breathe either ice or fire.
I chose this one to be a fire breather. That should be apparent with the warm colours and his yellow glowing orb at the end of his tail. The girl on his hand isn't frightened, if you can see her facial expression, but rather happy that he has come and found her.
I'm getting carried away. With dreams, nothing is impossible. Even befriending a giant Drake dragon!
Time To Finish - about 30 hours Song mostly listened to while creating this - Hands by The Almost and the Numa Numa song LMAO!!
Well, you asked for it so here goes: I want you to know first that you are an incredible artist. The heart you put into this piece has not gone amiss with me, I feel energy and life in here and for that you should be commended. I hope that if my comments seem harsh it is not because I am a flamer but because I see so much potential for your future as an artist, and am rooting for your success. May fortune smile on you, and may your skills continue to develop. Onto the crtique: The anaotmy work is brilliant on the head, and especially on that arm. Foreshrotening effect acieved: you did a great job making this look 3d. Colors are appropriate and well balanced, overall piece is nicely balanced too. Lighting effect is good. Something that look a bit strange is that blur you've got for section beyond the arm but not for that tail which is on the same plane or even behind. Keep this consistent, that will be your key. Likewise, keep te ammount of hair consistent too - is sparse on neck but full bushy on tail. looks a bit odd. Scales are well placed and tastefully done, and I love how you set those claws in properly on that hand. Watch those frills - it looks like you put less time into them than any part on this piece, they look rushed and not at all consistent with that fantastic drake. could you maybe develop them more? Make them tranparent, show how they connect with veins or bones structures between them? Anyway, best of luck, and I hoope this was helpful. I look forward to seeing more work from you, and keep up the good work.
I think that dragons DO exist, and we have yet to find them. Think about it, there are stroies in cultures that had no contact with each other for millenium and yet, somehow, they all have dragons that are so similar that you could easily mistake a dragon from the Americas for a dragon from Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East, Australia, etc. How can they not exist? Is my question.

Whoa!! this is truly amazing work! I love everything about it; from the look of innocent curiosity (well that's how it looks to me ) on the dragon to the vivid-yet-pleasent colours you used. This is really a beautiful peice.
the title makes this picture. it adds so much... it makes him look that much more excited and interested to hear what she has to say. the only thing that would have made it better in my opinion would be a slightly more obvious smile on the dragon's face. i really like this picture.
doesn't _have_to_ be like that... there is definitely such a thing as too far. also, i may be reading the "please tell me" wrong.. perhaps it's something urgent as opposed to interesting, in which case the look on its face seems more like concern/excitement, which would work fine. heh... many possibilities.
This is sooooo awesome! I love this piece I too are a huge fan of dragons. I even described my own dreamworld and dragons are part of it too I love them so much, I can't dercribe it^^ I have a female western dragon named Safira as a character.
